road Map for success

Athletic Training

Whether boxing or strength and conditioning, we provide modern, effective, safe and fun training programs to give each individual an opportunity to reach their maximum individual potential. Some students will become professional athletes, others will become coaches, and some will move on to do other various things in life. We allow them to be individuals, decide for themselves what direction they wish to go and provide support during the program and after they move on. They will always be a part of the ASU family, anytime they are in need or wish to help others who come after them. However, learning how to live healthier, the importance of staying active and the physical & mental benefits are things they will carry with them, live by and share with others including how to raise healthy kids of their own some day.

Integrated Life Skills Training

Our coaches are taught how certain life skills can be learned during most activities, how to identify opportunities for coaching in real situations, and how to give real time feedback & coaching. Most essential life skills can be learned during regular daily activities. This is an essential part of providing the right environment for children to thrive. During the early ages Integrated Life Skills Training is the primary method. However, as kids become older, more mature, have made progress during the program, then they are ready for more direct education, training and coaching. By this point, the subject matter would be different and likely be focused on leadership, coaching peers, being reliable, keeping commitments, being of service and many other topics that teach them how to be adults. Benefits

Training provides kids opportunities.

Helps provide opportunities to travel, meet new people, make new friends and sharpen essential social skills.Training also provides individuals with the opportunity to pursue a competitive attitude. Keeping score motivates them to try harder. In competition it’s natural to pursue excellence and when that becomes a habit through sports, it typically carries over to all areas of their life.

Competition helps kids learn to win and lose with good sportsmanship.

People don’t like being around a boastful person, but at the same time who likes a whiner? Competition gives us the opportunities to cope with feelings of pride and disappointment and to learn to process them in healthy ways.

Goal Setting.

When competing or trying to improve physically in sports, you set goals. Follow up, check progress, learn where they went wrong, how it effected them and how to redirect to get back on track to reach their goals.

They Perform Better In School..

Many studies have shown that high school students who play sports are less likely to drop out. Furthermore, participation in sports also has been associated with completing more years of education and consistently higher grades in school. Not surprising that the discipline and goal setting that is learned in competitive sports helps in school.

A great way to learn and understand what commitment is.

In business the old saying goes “Successful people do the things that unsuccessful people don’t want to do. That’s why they are successful.” Same rings true for kids in competitive sports. They want to do better, excel and win so they learn that it requires commitment if they really want it

Learn to overcome fear.

Once they learn that competition is not really as scary as it seemed. They develop the ability to identify fear and act in spite of it. Also helps to instill confidence and helps develop the ability to take risks. Thus, learning and being willing to do things that are hard and uncomfortable.

Learning how to manage their nerves.

When competing it’s normal of course to get a little anxious and for the stomach to get butterflies. It’s also a natural way for kids to learn the skill of managing their nerves on their own. By learning this trait they will be in a much better place when doing things like taking exams, interviewing for jobs or giving presentations.

Competition Creates The Ability to Learn Faster.

When a sporting event is coming up, kids work harder and faster than usual. They learn to push themselves, perform at a higher level and often times surprise themselves at what they were able to accomplish. That’s always a good moral booster.

Community Engagement. Again, primarily learned through the integrated process on an every day basis.

Specifically focused on how to grow as an individual and contribute to others within our community setting. Learning things like:

  • How to properly be supportive of your piers, coaches and other community members.
